2010 Events
ACCT - the Therapy Centre has organised several events this year. All have been positive and good fun as well as bringing in much needed funds.
February saw the spring Ceilidh at Rosely Village Hall. 80 people danced the night away to the music of Georgia Shorrocks and her Ceilidh band.
In March medium Mary Johnston kindly donated her time and we held an evening of Clairvoyance at the Greystone Community Centre. It was well attended and Mary worked solidly entertaining us with her humour and the messages she gave to the audience.
In April we held our third Healthy Body, Mind, Spirit, day at Morton Community Centre. By popular request this is now an annual event. It was a great day with exhibitors coming from quite a distance. There was lots of variety in the workshops and lots of things to try in the main hall. Judging from the feedback the day was a resounding success. Watch out for the 2011 date and put it in your diary.
At the end of June the Strawberry Tea was held in Curthwaite. We were so lucky to have a warm dry day so that everyone could sit in the garden.
Also in June Gill Graham hosted lunch at her house. Her guests each made a donation for their lovely lunch.
In August we held a coffee morning at the Old Town Hall and met lots of new people. The cake stall was very popular.
These events together raised nearly £1,600 . This funding goes towards the cost of providing therapies at the two centres and to supporting the outreach work. Without fund raising the Therapy Centre could not exist.
Thanks must go to all the volunteers, therapists, trustees and their friends who come and help at the events.
There is a new fund raising group now working together to plan the programme of events.
Outreach Work in 2010
In addition to offering therapies in the two centres, the Therapy Centre sometimes works out in the community, giving talks, workshops or short taster therapies. In the last few months we have worked with the following organisations;
Taster treatments for the lone parents group run by Barnadoes, Carers from West Cumbria Making Space, Carers from Carlisle Making Space, Age Concern at Brampton Community Centre, Botcherby Community Centre fun day, the Young Stroke Club and the Cultural Bazaar at Trinitiy School.
2009
Having seen out 2008 with our Christmas Ceilidh, 2009 was a busy and productive year for the Centre:
Following the success of last year's events, we once again hosted a Healthy Body, Mind and Spirit Day at Morton Manor Community Centre on 25 April from 10.00am to 4.00pm, whcih raised over £900 for Therapy Centre funds. Many thanks got to everyone whose hard work made the days so enjoyable and productive and to those who came along, helping to support our work.

Cumbria Community Awards 2007
We were narrowly pipped at the post for this year’s Healthy Living Award, sponsored by HF Holidays and Cumbria County Council. Iris Rogan, our Chair, and Berni Green, the volunteer who kindly nominated us, attended the Awards Ceremony at Rheged Centre, Penrith on Thurs 1st Nov on behalf of our team of volunteers, therapists and trustees.
All the runners-up were praised for their efforts and we look forward to continuing to develop our healthy living work over the coming year.
Outreach Work
As well as reaching our 400th client at The Therapy Centre, we have been involved with outreach work outside the Centre.
Therapists have continued to work with local voluntary groups and charitable organisations to offer staff training workshops, taster treatments, talks and demonstrations. Recent contacts have included: Carlisle Mind, Making Space, Impact Housing, Carlisle Job Centre and Age Concern. We have also been out and about on a regular basis at local care homes in Carlisle and Brampton, offering therapies for both staff and clients.
Members of the team have also participated in consultations and discussions at health-related forums, with Cumbria Action for Health, Carlisle Partnership Community Health Network, Cumbria Mental Health Forum and Cumbria CVS.
To discuss possible links with your local organisation, please contact us.
Back Awareness Week (6 to 13 Oct 2009)
Therapists from the Therapy Centre offered provision of free tasters and back-care advice for staff in local businesses including Woolworths, the Job Centre, Northern Rock, Tesco and Staples.
Clients enjoyed mini-treatments in a range of therapies including Indian Head Massage, Back Neck and Shoulder Massage and Reflexology to help promote back care, by helping to relieve stress, reduce tension and muscular aches & pains and to offer relaxation.
